Military Science Minor - Air Force ROTC prepares undergraduate students to become officers in the United States Air Force. Army ROTC at the University of Florida is the oldest and best leadership course. The University of Florida's Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps maintains a fine tradition of training the future officers of the United States Navy.

The Army ROTC (AROTC) program allows students to learn about the military profession and its role in our democratic system of government. The courses enable one to acquire such knowledge on campus without having to serve in the military.
The Army ROTC option enriches the student's studies. Such courses also open up additional career options, allowing students to earn commissions and become officers in the military or in the Reserves or National Guard while pursuing a civilian career.

Eligible students may receive study abroad opportunities on scholarships, military exchange programs, adventure training, or other leadership intern programs. Military science courses are open to all UW students. Students must complete core courses and select fifteen (15) hours of elective courses.

This interdisciplinary minor is designed for all students who have a special interest in military and national security matters. Military emphasis is placed in one of three areas: Aerospace Studies, Military Science, or Naval Science. The US military has played an important role in our domestic and international history and will continue to play an important role in policy areas related to national security and international relations.
Students choose a branch of military service for prescribed courses and choose two additional courses from history and political science courses that emphasize national security policy. The U.S. Army sponsors two-, three-, and four-year military science scholarships that are awarded competitively by the military to students seeking commissions.
Academic Advising
Undergraduate students can earn a commission through a two-, three- or four-year study program. Graduate students can also earn commissions through ROTC. Students interested in receiving a commission, scholarship or both should contact the Recruiting Operations Officer.

Students may not transfer from a campus offering a major to a campus not offering a major for the purpose of completing a minor.
Requirements For The Minor
Military science courses are designed to give students the opportunity to become commissioned officers in the US Army. These courses provide leadership training and military skills training required for army officers. Army ROTC is open to all students in all academic fields leading to a bachelor's degree.
Graduate students can also participate in ROTC; However, it is strongly recommended that graduate students speak with the Department of Military Science before starting graduate school to ensure academic alignment with ROTC. Classroom instruction combines lectures, group discussions, practical exercises, and hands-on experience. Required courses focus on the basics of military science and military history, while interdisciplinary options focus on constitutional law, international relations, geography, technology, and more.
Upper division courses (300 and 400-level) are primarily offered for four credits each. These courses are only offered to contract cadets or those in the contract process. It develops leadership, decision making, communication, ethics, and US students.

Directed to students and decision makers. As established by Senate Policy 59-10, a grade of C or better is required for all courses in the minor. In addition, at least six credits from the minor must be separate from the prescribed courses required for the major(s).
